The Xavier Zubiri Foundation of North America, a tax-exempt charitable organization, was founded in 1997 to make the work of Spanish philosopher Xavier Zubiri better known in North America. Under the governance of its Board of Directors, the goals of the Foundation are:

  • Publish and distribute translations of Zubiri's works

  • Serve as a resource center for research and study of Zubiri

  • Sponsor seminars on Zubiri, and sessions on Zubiri at major conferences

  • Allow scholars studying Zubiri to exchange ideas, papers, and other research

  • When resources permit, sponsor established scholars to study Zubiri in Madrid, and fellowships for graduate students interested in doing theses and dissertations on Zubiri

  • Maintain a liaison with the Fundación Xavier Zubiri in Madrid and coordinate North American activities with those in Spain and elsewhere in the world

The Foundation's Annual Reports may be viewed or downloaded.

IRS filings (form 990PF) may also be viewed here in Adobe Acrobat format:

The work of the Foundation requires financial resources. In accomplishing its objectives, the Foundation welcomes your financial support.

1. Fundación Xavier Zubiri de Madrid, Madrid, Spain

The Fundación coordinates much of the Zubiri work done today. It publishes Zubiri’s works, runs weekly seminars on Zubiri’s thought, and organizes international conferences on Zubiri (the first was in 1993; the next is scheduled for 1999). The Fundación can also coordinate graduate-level study of Zubiri in Spain. The Fundación recently moved its offices to Zubiri's apartment in Madrid.

2. Seminário Missionário Arquidiocesano "Redemptoris Mater", Brasília, Brazil.

This seminary bases its entire curriculum on Zubiri’s thought. It stresses orthodoxy and prepares priests to be sent wherever in the world the Catholic Church needs them. Seminarians study systematic philosophy for two years along the lines of Zubiri’s philosophy, "the only one capable…of confronting in a radical way modernism and post-modernism." The course of study includes philosophy of intellection, metaphysics, philosophy of the world, philosophy of man, moral philosophy, philosophy of religion, and theological philosophy. The Xavier Zubiri Foundation of North America is currently collaborating with the Seminário in its work.

The recent economic crisis in Brazil has caused some problems for the Seminary. Contributions to further the extremely important work of the Seminary are urgently needed. If you wish to make a contribution to the Seminary, please contact the Foundation for information on how to do this. Thank you!

3. Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Madrid, Spain

The Complutense has an outstanding faculty, and many fine theses on Zubiri have emerged from it. Recently, Professor Luis Jiménez of the Faculty of Philosophy spoke at the Foundation’s seminar during the XX World Congress of Philosophy. 4. International Academy of Philosophy, Liechtenstein

This institution, which provides graduate education in philosophy, is in the tradition of phenomenological realism, but welcomes doctoral work on Zubiri. It is staffed by a fine permanent faculty and well-known visiting professors. It is relatively small, which makes for very good student/professor contact. Under the leadership of its Rector, Dr. Josef Seifert, it is an excellent choice for graduate study. For up-to-date information on the Academy and its curriculum, visit its web site. Readers may also wish to contact Dr. Seifert directly at jseifert@iap.li.
